DSI was contracted by the University of Sydney to provide modeling support for provision of near real time predictions of water conditions in Sydney Harbour (SHED Project) Using an existing EFDC (Environmental Fluid Dynamics Code) model of Sydney Harbor developed by UoS, DSI successfully created a Linux based real time model (visualization of between 24-48 hours) for the hydrodynamics and salinity of the Harbor. Real time data from the Bureau of Meteorology (BoM) meteorological stations is automatically loaded into the EFDC model on two servers at the University of Sydney which runs every 24 hours and provides output data to the client. Model output conforms to industry standard of Climate Forecast (CF) conventions for NetCDF; In Phase 2 of the project DSI added interfaces for inputting real time environmental parameters such as humidity and temperature data into the SHED software program. The web based viewer in Phase 1 was developed by CSIRO as part of the TasMAN system. The development of the web based viewing system for Phase 2 was conducted by Intersect Australia and provides dynamic visualization of selected variables. Output from the viewer is shown in the figures below.
